This is a list of classes that we have for those that are in school years 3-6.


Some of these classes are available for other age ranges. For correct times please make sure you check all relevant ages information as times and days may vary.

Monday

Musical Theatre


4.30-6.00pm (during term time)


Do you love to sing? Join us on an incredible journey through some of the most well known and loved musicals! Develop your singing and performance skills and round off the team performing an edited version of a classic musical - previous projects include We Will Rock You, Elf The Musical, Dear Even Hansen and the productions of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Schwartz.


Musical theatre pieces will be explored, staged and sung incorporating movement and dialogue and always working towards a private end of term sharing for family and friends in one of our fully equipped theatres.

Gemma Eves

Gemma trained at Mountview Academy before continuing her studies in acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She has been teaching for over 10 years in both London and New York as well as performing in numerous shows.

Tuesday

Performing Arts


4.00-6.00pm (during term time)


A great foundation for those in school years Reception - Year 6 looking to develop their skills and have a really great time doing so and meeting new friends. Led by a drama teacher and a musical director the sessions will show the most entertaining way to tell a story. Each week the children cover aspects of singing, dancing and drama in fun filled and energetic sessions.


They produce a private showcase for family and friends at the end of each term.

Art & Prop Making


4.45-6.15pm (during term time)


Learn about different art styles and techniques including painting, collage, sculpture and clay modelling. Design and create props and set to be used in our in house productions such as Under the Sea and Macbeth.

Aerial Skills


9.30-10.40am - Level 1

10.50am-12.00pm - Level 2

12.15-1.30pm - Level 3


Participants will learn trapeze, ropes and silks to build strength, stamina and confidence. Taught in a friendly and supportive atmosphere by experience trainers.

For ages 7+

Saturday

Children's Theatre School


10.00am-12.00pm (during term time)


A fun packed Saturday morning drama school.

Learn drama skills and social skills in age related groups while making new friends and having a wonderful time. Our courses are run by experienced drama practitioners.

The children work on a different theme every term - previous themes include Shakespeare, Roald Dahl, poems and short stories. The strategies used include story making, improvisation, individual, pair and group work, developing speaking and listening skills, building self-esteem and confidence and the use of drama conventions.


On the last session of each term family and friends are invited to see a private sharing of the children's work.

Antonia Theodorou (Years 3 & 4)

BA Performing Arts and Media Studies - De Montfort Uni

Antonia has experience in comedy, commercials, pantomime, theatre and much more.


David Alexander (Years 5 & 6)

BA (Hons) Acting and Theatre Studies

David works with local schools, both at the Drama Centre and on site at the schools. He also runs our Alternative Shakespeare group for adults and our Shakespeare for Kids class for secondary school students. He is extremely experienced with working with all age groups and abilities.

Saturday

RDC Performing Arts School


2.30-5.30pm


An all-round experience for those keen to develop their dance, drama and singing skills. The afternoon sessions are split between each one of those areas and are energetic and exciting ways to explore what performing arts are, and what a performer can do.

The school produces a public production once a year and a sharing for family and friends at the end of the other terms.


Previous productions include:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Under the Sea, West Side Story, Until the Wind Changes and Oliver! at Sir James Hawkey Hall

Our teachers

Owen Smith - Dance

Owen Smith trained with the Palmerstone Stage School and was a syllabus performer for the Royal Ballet School. As a performer his theatre credits include: Annie (UK National Tour), A Chorus Line, 'Dean' in Boogie Nights, 'Brad' in A Rock Horror Picture Show and 10 years in seasonal pantomime. As a creative, Owen's choreography and directing credits include: The Magic of Eurovision (P&O Cruises), Resident Director for the Summer Seasons in the Isle of Man working with Samantha Barks, Trash The Musical (Belgium), The Fall - a new ballet (RDC), Santa's New Sleigh (The Arts Theatre London) and ISHQ The Musical (Saddlers Wells Theatre).


Leon Ockenden - Drama

Leon is an actor, director and writer who works in TV, film, theatre and radio. He studied performing arts at the College of Further Education in Plymouth, then received a scholarship from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, where he took a three-year acting course and graduated in 2003. He is best known for acting in Mr Selfridge, Waterloo Road and Coronation Street.


Tom Knowles - Singing

Tom trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of music and dance, training as a classical and jazz pianist. His credits include conducting at, playing at, and composing for the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Wigmore Hall. He has also been the Musical Director for shows across Europe and plays piano with the London Musical Theatre Orchestra. He is currently orchestrating for LMTO and preparing to MD panto at Camberley Theatre this Christmas period.

Musical Theatre


Reception - Year 4: 2.00-3.30pm

Year 5 and above: 4.00-5.30pm


Official Musical Theatre qualifications are available alongside this course, provided by Trinity College London. You can opt in to work on Grades 1-8 in Musical Theatre alongside this class. We have a 100% pass rate with over 60% of candidates gaining a distinction in their grade.


Explore the world of musical theatre and expand your acting, singing and dancing skills. With a combination of working together as cast members and enhancing individual repertoires, this course is a fun-filled way to learning how to be a "triple threat" performer.

Students will spend the Autumn term working together to create their very own showcase exclusively for family and friends performed on the last class of term.

Our teachers

Fraser Stainton

Fraser trained at the Stageworx School of Performing Arts in Stirling, since he was 4 years old. He has been in training for the past 3 years at the Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts.


Georgia Benson

Georgia graduated from Italia Conti Academy, prior to which she trained at Novelli Stage School since the age of 4. Her theatre credits include: Boogie Nights, Santa’s New Sleigh, Cabaret, Heathers, The Tempest, Circus 1903, Godspell. Film/TV credits include: Lily in Casette, Ant and Decs Saturday Night Takeaway, Lets Sing and Dance for Comic Relief.
